POLICE SEIZE THREE MOTORBIKES FOR ILLEGAL ENGINES

Written by on August 6, 2021

Police seized three motorcycles, over the holidays, two of which exceeded the legal engine size allowed in the territory. Monday’s operation conducted by the Road Policing Unit and the Armed Response Unit covered different locations around Tortola and resulted in the confiscation of three cycles — one 1300cc, one 750cc and a 125cc.

Police say Riders in possession of the prohibited motorcycles were arrested. Police also said that one was charged for driving without a driver’s license and driving when not covered by third party risk insurance and the other was discharged pending further investigation. The Police Information Office says that advice is being sought on further charges through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution. The rider of the 125cc motorcycle was reported for driving without a driver’s license and driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle.

Commissioner of Police Mark Collins noted in May that operations targeting motorists who violate the Road Traffic Laws would continue during the summer months. Commissioner Collins said those operations to pursue owners of illegal bikes and those that cause a noise nuisance are specifically planned to minimize the risks to riders, the public and officers.
