COMMISSIONER SAYS THE DEATHS OF A POLICE FORCE SERGEANT FROM COVID HITS TOO CLOSE TO HOME

Written by on July 20, 2021

Commissioner of Police Mark Collins has said that the death of a Police Sergeant at the RVIPF hits home and has urged all officers who are not vaccinated to do so. Sergeant Algon Smikle died Saturday from Covid 19 complications.

Commissioner Collins said it is difficult to put into words any emotions that adequately capture the shock they all feel right now. Suffice it to say, this loss hits way too close to home. The Commissioner said he did not know Sergeant Smikle as well as many of them, but he feels the same sadness that one within the family is torn away so suddenly and tragically. He said to close friends and particularly his colleagues within the Armed Response Unit, he knows this news must be even more difficult. Commissioner Collins used this opportunity to encourage officers to vaccinate against this deadly disease, and implored all within the establishment to apply the public safety protocols at all times, adding it is paramount that they don’t neglect to take the necessary precautions to maximise the safety for ourselves and that of others. There is NO place for complacency.
