A SECURITY GUARD CHARGED IN SIGNIFICANT COCAINE BUST GETS BAIL

A government security guard was placed on an 80 thousand dollar bail – 15 thousand of which was cash, after 172 bricks or 188 kilos of cocaine was found on his premises.

The police reported on Wednesday that officers in the East End area seized the quantity of cocaine.

The Hope Hill resident – Stacy Smith – 43, told Magistrate Khadeen Palmer today that he was holding the cocaine for a friend.

Smith is charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply to another.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that after receiving a tip, the police carried out a search at Smith’s residence on Wednesday and discovered the quantity of cocaine in a garage.

The accused told the court he was asked by a friend to store the cocaine but he did not disclose the name of the friend.

The street value of the cocaine is 19 million dollars.

Smith was granted bail by the court and was ordered to surrender all his travel documents and report to the Road Town Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 6 am and 12 pm. The case will again come up in court on November 30th. Smith is being represented by lawyer Valerie Stephens-Gordon in the case.
