Two Virgin Islanders to Represent Territory at Youth Olympics

Ms. Elinah Philip and Malik John will be travelling to Buenos Aires, Argentina to represent the BVI at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). The Games are scheduled to take place from October 6th – 18th.

Ms. Philip who is an 18-year-old swimmer will be competing in the 50m and 100m Freestyle and the 50m Butterfly. Her first event is the Women’s 100m Freestyle heat on October 8th.

Mr. John will be competing on October 11th where the 17-year-old will be making his debut when he participates in the preliminary rounds of the 400m track event.

Both athletes will be attending the YOG for the first time, however Ms. Phillip made her Olympic Games debut at the age of 16 when she swam the 50m Freestyle at Rio 2016, becoming the first Virgin Island’s swimmer to participate at the Summer Games. She has also competed successfully in several events in the UK and beyond.
