A plea from Premier Andrew Fahie for the public not to get careless in following the Covid-19 protocols.
Premier Fahie made that comment recently during the reopening of the Taddy bay Airport on Virgin Gorda.
The Premier sounded the warning, that they would not be taking retrograde steps and resorting to lockdowns, instead he urged persons to be vaccinated.
The territory has a total of 39 positive active cases of Covid-19.
In two recent bulletins, the Ministry of Health encouraged members of the public with chronic diseases to vaccinate against COVID-19 to reduce risk of severe disease and to take precautions to minimise the risks of exposure.
It said that COVID-19 is known to impact persons with chronic diseases and older persons more harshly, increasing their chances of severe disease, hospitalisation, and death.
Also, the Ministry urged the public to remain vigilant amid recent increases in COVID-19 positive cases and the recent identification of the Omicron variant which has been discovered in Africa and other countries and is a new variant of concern.
Persons are asked to remain vigilant and adhere to COVID-19 public health protocols during the upcoming festive season. Practice social distancing, wear masks correctly and sanitise hands as frequently as possible during mass gatherings.
