PREMIER FAHIE SAYS THE REGION LOST A POLITICAL GIANT FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF FORMER ANTIGUAN PRIME MINISTER LESTER BIRD

Premier Andrew Fahie has expressed sadness at the passing of former Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Sir Lester Bird, saying the Caribbean has lost a political giant.
Bird died on Sunday, August 8th. Sir Lester served as Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda from 1994 to 2004 and held several other ministerial posts over the course of his 38 years as parliamentarian and politician. Premier Fahie said Sir Lester made tremendous contributions to the development of Antigua and Barbuda during his long and distinguished career; and cemented the country’s historical relationship with the British Virgin Islands that remains a close and friendly neighbour. He said the people of Antigua and Barbuda have lost a great son and National Hero and on behalf of the Government and people of the British Virgin Islands, he extends sincere condolences to the family of the late Prime Minister and to the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
The Premier said he prays that God will give them strength and comfort during this difficult time.
