The Covid-19 spike currently being experienced in the territory is affecting the operations of some business as workers test positive for the Coronavirus.
As of Monday, January 3rd the total number of active cases was 601, with 12 hospitalisations and 45 deaths.
The spike with cases among some staff has caused the BVI Airports Authority to adjust its hours.
Acting Managing Director at the BVIAA Keith Flax has informed the travelling public that effective Wednesday 5th January 2022, The daily, Operational Hours of the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, (EIS), will be: 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. until further notice.
Flax said that TB Lettsome Airport will close for two (2) half hour periods (9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.) and 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm) through to Tuesday 11th January 2022, in the first instance.
He said due to this closure, no services will be provided to the airports in Anegada and Virgin Gorda during this period, pointing out that the amending of the operational hours is in response to a wave of COVID-19 related illnesses that afflicted the staff.
Flax has sought to assure the travelling public that the BVI Airports Authority stands committed with the Government as it exerts all efforts to manage and bring under control the number of staff afflicted by the virus.
Meantime some government departments have moved to remote services only until January 7th. While the Administration Unit of the Immigration Department resumed physical operations on Wednesday, 5th January, the Lands unit and trade department will resume physical operations on January 10th.
