McMaster, Malone and others named Athletes of the year

Kyron McMaster and Chantel Malone have been named the British Virgin Islands Athletics Association (BVIAA) Colonial Insurance (BVI) Ltd., Senior Male and Female Athletes of 2018.

McMaster was ranked 3rd in the men’s 400-meter hurdles in 2018 and was the 2-time champion of the Diamond League in 2017 and 2018 amongst many other titles. His personal best record is 47.54 seconds.

Malone was named the BVI’s first IAAF World Championship finalist and was ranked top 100 in the world in the 2018 women’s long jump.

Rikkoi Brathwaite and Beyonce Defreitas named BVIAA Colonial Insurance (BVI) Ltd. Junior Male and Female Athletes of the Year

Brathwaite is the Jr. National Record Holder in the 100-meter dash.

DeFreitas was the silver medallist at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas in the 200-meter sprint in 2017. She ran under 24 seconds in the 200-meter at the age of 15 and is a national leader in her division. Locally, she has remained unbeaten since the age of 13.

Youth Male and Female Athletes of the Year

Jaleel Croal was the national top 100-meter and 200-meter leader in his U15 age division. He was qualified for the FLOW Carifta Games in both the 100-meter and 200-meter where he placed 6th in the 100-meter finals.

Adaejah Hodge in her career has ran a time of 12.34 seconds in 100-meter. She broke the 26-year-old record of 24.47 with a time of 24.37 seconds in the 200-meter in her U13 age division at the Jr. Olympics in the USA.
