INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY IN THE DISCOVERY OF 39 KILOS OF WHAT APPEARS TO BE COCAINE AT THE PORT

The discovery of 39 kilos of a substance what appears to be cocaine at Port Purcell has resulted in the closure of that facility.
Commissioner of Customs and head of the Joint Task Force -Wade Smith said the substance was found in a container at the port.
Smith says the substance was found by officers of the Customs Department and he then deployed other members of the Joint Task Force which included other customs officers, Police and Immigration Officers were alerted to assist these officers.
He says members of the Joint Task Force combed the area this afternoon and continue to investigate the situation.
Smith says more information will be available as the investigation continues.
