Written by on October 14, 2020

A tourism certification programme is now being offered at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and industry personnel are being encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity.

Training will start next week, and the first 1000 persons can attend free of cost.

During a ceremony last week, Junior Tourism Minister Sharie Decastro said when life throws lemons at you, you make lemonade, as here they are in the middle of a pandemic that has practically brought their industry to a standstill, but instead of cowering, they are standing upright, capitalizing on the moment –“making lemonade”.

Junior Minister Decastro said they are partnering with the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College to deliver training and development under the internationally recognized certification “START” the Skills, Task, And Results Training.

Minister De Castro said this is a pivotal point for them as a territory, as they introduce this training programmes an intervention strategy, which has proven successful in other destinations.

She said if are to succeed, they need all hands-on deck –the entire community working together with the hope and goal that they see themselves not only as professionals, but also as BVILOVE tourism ambassadors.

And Director of Culinary Arts & Hospitality Studies at HLSCC, Keshia Davis Barnes said this training by the BVI Tourist Board, Government and HLSCC is important as they continue to build on service excellence across the Virgin Islands.
