HEALTH MINISTER CONTINUES TO URGES THE PUBLIC TO BE VIGILANT IN THE FACE OF COVID-19

Written by on July 23, 2020

Health Minister Carvin Malone continues to urge the public to remain vigilant in the face of COVID-19, saying that the BVI’s Borders are not the easiest to monitor.

The Minister’s call comes in the wake of a traveller who left the BVI and tested positive on arrival in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The traveler resided on Jost Van Dyke.

During a Special Public Eye Programme Tuesday evening, Minister Malone said there is the problem of illegal entry and that in itself puts persons in the territory at risk.

Minister Malone is imploring the public to adopt, each one looks out for the other.

He said this is needed, as it is very easy for persons to traverse to and from the USVI, where their cases have passed the 100 mark.

Meanwhile Health Teams have been dispatched to Jost Van Dyke to test everyone there for COVID.

Minister Malone said while some persons felt they should have given more notice about the 24-hour lockdown on Jost Van Dyke, he said they had to move swiftly.

At a sitting of the House of Assembly on Tuesday, Minister Malone said he instructed the BVI Health Services Authority to conduct COVID-19 testing for the entire resident population of Jost Van Dyke and the HEOC to report on its findings and recommendations by Monday, 27 July 2020.
