It was a celebration dubbed the House that Mathavious Built on Monday night, as Government honoured Dr. Robert Mathavious, who has been described as one of the pioneers of BVI’s Financial Services Industry.
Dr. Mathavious retired in 2020, with his last role being the Chief Executive Officer of the BVI Financial Services Commission, after serving for 40 years in the Public Service.
Noting that the government funded his University studies, Dr. Mathavious said he wanted to serve his country and effect change.
Dr. Mathavious said whatever he did albeit not on his own, was to ensure that the territory made its mark on the international scene.
Government bestowed an award on Dr. Mathavious for his “unwavering contribution to the Public Service and to the people of the Virgin Islands,” by Acting Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley and Acting Governor David Archer Jr.
Dr. Wheatley said it was Dr. Mathavious’s philosophy that the Virgin Islands must continuously adapt to change that has helped the territory to earn international recognition as a jurisdiction that implements and adheres to international standards.
