The Government has been criticised heavily for instituting a seven percent fee on monies leaving the territory through money services such as Western Union and Money Gram, but Premier Andrew Fahie said they are on their way to achieving their goal of putting the money into five different areas.
During the House of Assembly on Tuesday, Premier Fahie said since they began collecting the fee, the slowest period thus far has been the second week in May where they received $843,670, 03.
He also added that if they continue on that trend, even in the slowest times, they would reach 1.7 million dollars by the end of the year.
The monies collected would be used in areas such as the Senior Citizens Home, Scholarships in different fields, fishing and agriculture, and first time homeowners.
Premier Fahie said had if they been doing that for years, they would have had a minimum of $5 million apiece.
