Former Chief Conservation and Fisheries Officer Bertrand (Wasasha X) Lettsome has died. Lettsome died on Monday after ailing for some time.

He was the son of the late TB Lettsome of whom the Airport is named after. Lettsome has been hailed as a leader who brought vision, growth & direction to the Conservation & Fisheries Department (CFD) for many years. He retired in 2011, after serving for some 27 years. It is said that his years of environmental stewardship to the Virgin Islands natural & human resources efforts raised the awareness of the people and importantly, decision makers at all levels, about trying to protect and conserve mangroves, sea grass, beaches, coral reefs, fish and other marine life for generations to come.”
