The Customs Department prevented close to 10 local water taxis from carrying persons to the USVI last weekend because they were not in compliant with customs and other regulations.
Commissioner of Customs Wade Smith said the water taxis which are locally based charter boats, were attempting to leave Sopers Hole at West End with guests but they did not meet the safety requirements and they were denied clearance by the customs.
