CUSTOMS CHARGE ANOTHER BOAT CAPTAIN FOR FLOUTING CUSTOMS, HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS

Written by on November 18, 2021

Customs officials have charged another boat captain some 20 thousand dollars after his vessel entered the BVI with 11 passengers on board without adhering to the customs, immigration and health and safety regulations.

This is the second vessel within days that was fined 20 thousand dollars by Customs for not abiding with the regulations.

Commissioner of Customs Wade Smith said the vessel was spotted near Cooper Island.

Smith says just days ago another vessel was fined 20 thousand dollars and one of its passengers was fined 10 thousand dollars for giving false information to customs officials.

He says the captain of this vessel was told not to conduct a charter because the vessel was not in compliant with Shipping Registry Regulations, and did not have a commercial licence or cruising permit from the customs but still the captain chose to do so.
