COMMUNITY INCENSED OVER REPORTS OF PERSONS COMING INTO THE TERRITORY ILLEGALLY ON SATURDAY

Written by on August 24, 2020

The community is up in arms and incensed when reports surfaced on Saturday, in broad daylight, around 10 am when reports surfaced of persons who entered the territory illegally through West End.

Reports say that two dinghies loaded with persons allegedly made their way into the territory, were spotted and reported by community-minded persons.

However, it is understood that by the time law enforcement were able to get to the location, the group managed to dock and made their escape inland using vehicles that were waiting.

Commissioner of Police Michael Matthews confirmed the incident.

The Commissioner said that Police and Customs were called to a report Saturday morning in the West End of a possible illegal entry.

He said that a boat came in and allegedly dropped persons off who were immediately picked up by vehicles and made off.

According to the Commissioner, live investigation shows that they have unscrupulous people living amongst them that are only concerned with making money whatever the cost to the population!

It is strongly felt that the move was well orchestrated, with the knowledge of USVI Coast Guard’s vessels being out of the water due to tropical storm Laura, and the limited patrol fleet of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) marine unit.

Commissioner Matthews appealed with members of the public, to work with police and report any sighting of illegal entry and other illegal and suspicious activities.
