At least two church leaders are opposed to legalizing gambling in the territory, while another said it can work if it’s controlled by Government.
Premier and Minister of Finance Andrew Fahie would bring a motion in the House of Assembly today for the Second and Third readings of the bill entitled, Gambling, Gaming and Betting Control Act, 2020.
Senior Pastor at the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church Melvin Turnbull says his biblical position on gambling could be considered a vexing issue and is simply to speak where God speaks and to be still until he does.
Reverend Franklyn Manners of the Methodist Church BVI Circuit, said they have always opposed gambling in all its forms.
He said it can be detrimental to some persons.
But Bishop John Cline of the New Life Baptist Church said from a societal standpoint, gambling whether legal or not is happening in the BVI today.
He said it has to be controlled.
