Written by on July 24, 2020

General manager of the BVI Electricity Corporation -BVIEC – Leroy Abraham says the corporation’s financial audit for the years 2017 and 2018 have shown sizeable losses in its operations.

At a recent press conference, the BVIEC said that since the impact of Hurricane Irma on the territory in 2017, they have been struggling financially and the COVID-19 pandemic has compounded the situation.

Abraham said that pre-Irma, the BVIEC had just under 17 thousand customers and 6 months after its impact when the grid was restored, the corporation was able to connect about 13 thousand customers.

He says this big drop in customers will affect the corporation’s revenue stream.

The BVIEC also offered an amnesty to customers because of the difficulties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abraham says the corporation will be releasing the figures soon as to the number of persons who applied.
