BVI ACTIVE COVID CASES INCREASE TO 39, IT FORCES THE CLOSURE OF ONE OF THE BANKS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Written by on December 1, 2021

A Covid-19 related problem has forced the temporary closure of a local bank and caused some workers of at least one local government statutory body not to be paid their salaries Tuesday.

CIBC First Caribbean Bank said in a notice on Monday that its Road Town branch “is closed until further notice.” Official reports to Let’s Fuze VI say the closure is Covid 19 related.

The bank also told customers that they could access their accounts at any of their ATM’s, online and on mobile banking services.

The bank also says that due to a combination of various issues beyond its control, the salaries of employees who bank with CIBC will be delayed.

The temporary closure of CIBC in Roadtown caused a delay of payment of salaries of workers at the BVI Health Services Authority – BVIHSA on Tuesday, November 30th.

In an email sent to employees, the BVIHSA informed staff that salaries will not be paid on time this month-end because of banking issues.

The email also said employees banking with Banco Popular and First Bank will also be affected.

The situation at CIBC also comes on the heels of two reported cases of Covid 19 at the ESHS Junior Campus which halted face to face learning.

And latest figures show that there are 39 positive cases of Covid-19 in the territory – 36 of which are on Tortola, 2 in Virgin Gorda and 1 on Jost Van Dyke. Its not clear if anyone is hospitalized.
