Our top 5 tips to maximize your radio ads.

Radio is still a must in your marketing  campaign and we want to share with you some tips to make  sure you get the most bang for your buck!

So, Ready to Fuze? Here are our top six things to consider when advertising on radio. 

  1. Know your target!

It goes without saying, to hit a target you must have one. Knowing your target audience helps you decide what radio station and when to advertise. Think about what kind of listeners will be tuning in, and are they a potential customer for your product or service?

Advertising with the Fuze guarantees you will reach our core demographic of 18-40 year old Virgin Islanders, Residents as well as listeners around the world. 

Radio stations also offer different programs you’ll want to know more about before you buy. For example, you will want to advertise your gas station  during the drive time when people are on the road and are most likely to drive to your gas station. Knowing your target audience is one target. The other is knowing what you want to get out of your ad.  

Establish a definition of success: do you want to raise awareness; want sales or more feet through the door?

2. Frequency and Timing

A radio commercial needs to air multiple times before it sinks in with the listener. Running your commercial once a week for a month isn’t going to be enough. A commercial that airs multiple times in a day has a better chance of reaching the listener than a commercial that only airs a few times in a week. 

Do you need prime time?  When is your potential customer most likely listening? We find your peak FM listeners are while people are driving. Most of that happens during morning and evening commute. We also have persons that listen at work, on boats, construction sites and businesses that tune in daily. Knowing this will help you maximize. It will make a huge difference in cost and outcome.

3. Have a Budget in mind

Radio gives you the chance to get very creative on a small budget, rely on the customer’s imagination to create the visuals. Want to advertise via a game show, racing boats or on top of the baths? No problem.

Speaking of cost, Marketing is an important part of growing  your business. You should dedicate some money regularly for marketing. Radio ads in the BVI cost on average about $10 – $20 per spot or play. At 4 spots per day you can expect to pay about $43.

Take advantage of the low ad rates for radio. Ad rates are always on the rise, but the costs are still more affordable than visual mediums, like television and billboards.

Consider buying in bulk or buying a package. The more ads you buy, the better rates you’ll be able to get.

4. Script and Production

Without a truly great script, you could ignore everything else on the list. You can have the best production, talent, time-slot, and have your target audience nailed, but a poor script will make it all worthless. So, the pressure is really on to make that script shine.

Ideally, you’ll want to hire a professional copywriter or creative advertising agency to do this for you. However, money can be tight when you’re running a small business, and you may have to settle for your writing skills to make this work or we can help. Most important, remember that you can paint any picture you want in the minds of the listeners. You don’t have to rely on special visual effects; this can all be done with voice talent and some sound effects. And the results can be incredible.

5. Live Mentions

Get a package with Live mentions. An announcer either reads or ad-libs a piece of information about your product or service. Generally a live read is based on a script provided by the creative agency and live mentions have been proven to be very effective, sometimes even more effective than ads. The listeners tend to value the announcers’ words or personal experience.
